Voted Fodor's Choice 2008 - 2012!
A state landmark, this 1857 Gothic-revival mansion stands on a forested hillside overlooking Nevada City, and is a special place for those who appreciate the finer points of Victorian interior design. Its brick exterior is trimmed with white-icicle woodwork. A steep private pathway leads down through the terraced gardens into town; there's also a well-lighted set of city stairs. Handsome antique furnishings and Oriental rugs decorate the rooms. Red Castle features a delightful afternoon tea, by request, and morning breakfast buffet that is unparalleled among Gold Country B&Bs. Pros: Friendly owners, spectacular food, fascinating architecture. Cons: You'll get a workout walking up the hill from downtown. FODOR'S
"The Red Castle Inn would top my list of places to stay.
Nothing else quite compares with it." GOURMET MAGAZINE
"... the historic four-story red-brick mansion built in 1857...is run today by the mayor of Nevada City. The inn, with its Gothic Revival architecture, has been well preserved...The grounds are lushly landscaped and have sitting areas and gardens where guests can read, enjoy a glass of wine or simply rest. Inside, the mansion's decor is decidedly Victorian." LA TIMES and SACRAMENTO BEE

if only I could remain. Thank you for this heavenly creation. Just peace and
beauty and the harmony of the unexpected." JANET and STEVE

"This is a first rate B&B. The breakfast here is a gourmet treat — one of the best we've ever had at a B&B." L&D, Redwood City, CA
"I must admit I usually stay at a different B&B when we come up here.
But I am so glad we got to stay here. It is not only beautiful and historic,
but very accommodating. You can visit with others or rest quietly in the gardens.
Right now I am eating an A+ breakfast of a unique design.
It's nothing I would have ordered at a restaurant and therefore would have missed out
on one of the most delicious meals I have ever had! Hope you all enjoy it as much as
we have." JOANNA and MARTY
"Celebrated as setting the standard for B&Bs." L.A. TIMES
"It was a long day and a long drive on Route 49 from Yosemite to here.
Your lovely room and welcoming manner put us at ease and made stress and worries
melt away behind the warmth of your retreat. A fine dinner recommendation and an
inviting turned down bed made this a special evening for a weary traveler."
"We came into town for a wedding and found a hidden treasure — just what the soul needs — a peaceful getaway." J&J, Guilderland, NY
"Few achieve the mix of history and hospitality with as much
enchantment." YELLOW BRICK ROAD
"Many thanks for a delightful stay. We'll be back. Breakfast was a true highlight. Our room is so lovely — full of treats for all of our senses. We feel relaxed, refreshed and recharged
for our return to the Silicon Valley. Mary Louise, thanks for taking time to chat and answer our
questions. Looking forward to our next visit." MIKE and JANIS
"One of ten top historic country inns."
"We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Our room was
First Class and so comfy. We toured the shops and ate at the National Hotel and Kirby's.
I highly recommend the latter. Don't miss the
Empire Mine in Grass Valley. It is so interesting. Our host and hostess were wonderful!" VL and JAMIE
"One of the most charming Inns in America." McCALLS
